After many months of research, talking to the autism communities, the academic communities and students across Europe, we have finally published one of the key outputs from the Autism&Uni project: 3 Best Practice Guides that highlight and promote what is good and worth sharing about autism support in Higher Education.
Because one size rarely fits all, the guides were written with three specific groups in mind:
- HE managers and senior academics who can influence policy and practice in their institutions.
- Lecturers and tutors who can benefit from practical tips for making their learning and teaching practices more accessible and inclusive.
- Professionals supporting autistic students within a university or as part of an outside organisation.
We cover the challenges typically encountered by autistic university students, explain the background to these and provide clear, practical tips for how you can adjust your own practice to better support students. Those autistic students who receive appropriate support in a timely manner thrive in higher education. Following our guide(s) will help you to help students make the most of their time studying and living at university. And we strongly believe that a more inclusive environment for autistic students is likely to benefit the entire student body.
We will officially launch the guides at the 10th annual International Technology, Education and Development Conference (INTED) in Valencia, Spain 7-9 March but if you’d like to download your copy already – you can!
